Softball Rules
On Fri in the 2nd game,a player left the field on his own.A player replaced him on the field and his at bat. This player should not have been replaced and his next at bat should have been an out according to the player rules in the past.He did not leave for an emergency or a pre-arraigned appointment. He could have only been replaced on the field if there was a team player in the dugout. For some reason, our softball rules seem to change when the occasion calls for it.I think the rules board should review the rules, make any changes they see fit, and stand by them.I hope I don't offend anyone.I just want to see the rules followed by everyone. umpire job
I've been playing softball since I was 18 years old. I've played year-round in Tucson Arizona, summer and snowflake in New York. In all that time I have seen very few umpire calls that cost a team a game. A tainted call might be called an error in judgment. I'm curious to know what an umpire thinks when he notices all the errors, we make especially the ones that cost a team a game? Lighten up guys, for the money we pay them, we should be thankful for their service.
Time for a change 2
Thank you Al Johnson for your comments.
All members should refresh by reading the softball rules. And pay special attention to number 14. Conduct of individuals.
The player committee is the six managers.
With that being said, if the manager can not control the players, or himself, time to find a person on that team that can.
There are 24 games left to the season.
Turn the negativity around.
We are grown men playing a kids game, and lucky enough to do it.
Your President, Charlie
Time For Change
Gentlemen,
As an "athletic club" that happens to sponsor a softball league, WHACS is very quickly coming to a breaking point. The question on the table is simple: IF we continue on with the utterly ridiculous actions shown in today's 1st game (Gigi's vs Rookies), can our 38-year old league even continue to exist?
For those not aware, the West Hernando Athletic Club for Seniors, Inc. pays a professional, certified umpire to officiate our games in accordance with the contract he has signed with the league. We are not all perfect human beings and, as a professional, he will always do his best to apply our local rules and the official NSA rulebook to keep our games timely, competitive and under control. However, if we ourselves are not under control, the job becomes extremely difficult and nearly unmanageable by/for anyone.
We need to look at ourselves individually, and especially our leadership team - i.e. managers, to set the standards we expect and deserve. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the case of late in total. If we continue in the manner shown today, as well as previous games, initially we will lose our spectators, then our players and then the league itself. I do not want to see that happen and neither should any of the Club's Members.
It is time for the Corporate Officers and Directors to step up and truly address the current issues by whatever method(s) it may take, i.e. suspensions, etc..Left unaddressed, things can only worsen to everyone's detriment. As paying Members, WE should be proud of WHACS and not embarrassed by it.
Lets PLAY BALL! the right way.
Christmas party
Great Christmas party! Thank you Artie for all you do for the league. My whole family absolutely enjoyed every moment. It was so wonderful to see all my league friends, you are all like a great big family. God bless you all and Merry Christmas to all
Big thanks
To Artie, Mike, and Patty, and all others that had a hand in the barbeque on Friday. Big thank you for being there. Good turn out.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.
Sponsors
Sponsors are the reason we play softball so low. So when only six people show up on Wednesdays after games, well. If we lose sponsors, we pay more to play. Choices.
Hard work
I would like to thank everyone who participated. Especially Cindy Labriola, she was busy from the time Jan and I got to picnic until we left. Thanks Cindy and your food contribution was delicious.
October picnic
Hugh thanks goes out to Artie Roper and Wes for putting on a fun get together at Crews lake. Also to Izzy Torres and his band.
And to all that showed bringing wonderful dishes for sharing.
Fun times being had by all.
In Remembrance
WHACS has suffered the loss of a former player, manager, President and true benefactor with the passing of Larry Dodson - he will be missed by all. Mere words can never express what Larry meant to our organization. Sincerest condolences to Lydia and his Family in this time of sorrow and remembrance.
