Life of this League
I have been a member for 8 yrs. In the past couple of seasons I have lost 3 dear members to me. Would sit down with them at picnic table after and before games.Talk about game and other topics. They were Richie Ortiz, Larry Dodson, Lou Zender. To me you are my 2nd family. Spend 3 hrs a day , 5 days a week with you all. Have to remember that it's not just about softball. Players must relax and have a good time. If you can't do that take up another sport that you enjoy and go do that instead leaving field all upset. We are all competitive. But when games ends, let it go. 90 percent of time I always have a smile on my face. Someone has to win and lose. Remember if it wasn't for 7 Board Members and 6 Managers donating there time there would be no organization League. Also only one third of league visits the Sponsers. Has to be more, if not we will lose them and might cost us $200 to play in this league

Upcoming Annual Club Elections
Several Members who are interested in running for office have approached me about the "duties" of the respective Board positions. The complete detail is in the Corporate Bylaws (on the website), but I'll give a brief synopsis for everyone's benefit. The West Hernando Athletic Club for Seniors, Inc. (WHACS) is a non-profit corporation formed under the auspices of the IRS and the State of Florida's Department of Corporations. The Club Board of Directors, composed of 4 Officers and 3 Directors-at-large, administers and oversees the operations of the Club, i.e. calling general membership meetings, finances, corporate filings, budgeting, discipline and oversight of all committees. The President, only, of the Corporation is an ex-officio (voting) member of all Committees. However, the "Board" itself has no direct involvement in any club committee, ala softball. Softball is the sole responsibility of the Player Committee, consisting of the 6 Managers, who name one of their number to be its Chairman. The Player Committee may call on the Board of Directors for any necessary administrative assistance/support it may need. Reporting of the Player Committee takes place at the Corporation's required Membership Meetings, held at least twice a year, as per the Bylaws. I hope this gives a clearer picture of how WHACS operates to those who may have an interest in running for corporate office.

Ken- sometimes the long season can wear you down both mentally and physically and softball becomes a negative. Don't close the door on softball for next season so quick. WHACS needs more players like you.

father time wins again
13 yrs ago i was fortunate to meet Tony Passanesi at Vets field. after a tryout i was put on a team.my 1st time up i used my aluminum bat & with a loud ping the guys laughed & said to see tony & get a sr bat. in the field after the other team scored 5 runs our guys walked off the field? sr rules. with the league redrafting every yr i've met many great people playing & going out after the gms. unfortunately some are no longer with us. i've had too many injuries & missed too many gms so i've decideded to hang it up. 13yrs have gone by very fast. as bob hope said "thanks for the memories". ken

What's it all for?
Bill: Point well-taken about "winning" however, there is nothing to "win". These 50+/- games are all "practice" leading up to a winner-take-all round robin tournament that is virtually meaningless of any team's season accomplishments.

correction of last message
It seems like winning is more important than sportsmanship to too many in this league.

Pizza Villa players
Just want to give credit to the players on the PV team for showing up every game and giving it their all with very little chance of a win. Very disappointed in the league for not making roster adjustments to make this team competitive. This league always talks about sportsmanship but it seems like winning takes a back seat to sportsmanship.
