Leadership/Managing
I just read these posts and decided to post my two cents based on my experience. I have 40+ years of working management experience and 20+ years of Senior Softball experience. Including managing Senior softball teams, leagues, and tournament teams. Management is all about leadership. A true leader or manager will put a player in a position to succeed or be happy for the entire team which usually leads to wins. A successful manager will put that player in that position which is what they will usually list on their application for the manager to test, use or draft. Not everyone is made to be a manager or leader and shouldn't be just because they are willing or not! That is a problem I have seen in this league.
For the record
No one said anything about being singled out, just taking care of the rumors about being traded that I was made aware of at BP. As we all know if people gossip to you, they will gossip about you. I very much enjoy being part of this league, but as life goes, we will always have a few bad apples, we just can't let it spoil the barrel.
For the record
For the record….. nobody named anyone in the previous posts. I,nor did anyone else single anyone out. There’s an old saying “if the shoe fits wear it”
The issue at hand was for ALL to take a look at and had nothing to do with one or two persons. It’s for our entire league to look at and improve on.
For the record
For the record I did not ask to be traded, I was asked by a manager if I would play for his team.
I did not complain to be traded. I left it to both managers if they so agree, so be it. I played 100% for the team I was on and will play 100% for the new team. Just wanted it the records as to what happened and how it took place.
Survival
Successful organizations reflect the quality of their leadership; those without tend to generate chaos and struggle to survive.
Compromises
No manager should ever compromise with a player that wants to be traded. The logic of such behavior stuns the imagination. Each compromise brings and endless aray of more such deals when word spreads. Trade me or I’ll drop the next fly ball, trade me or I won’t hustle, trade me or I won’t help set up the field, trade me or I’ll pour soda in commissioners gas tank. It’s never about the survival of an individual or even a team, it’s about the survival of the collective unit. If an individual approaches a manager and wants to be traded, it’s Thank you for playing, not let’s fix it so you’re happy. It’s Softball not therapy. Any manager who succumbs to such behavior is worried about his team and the individual not the collective unit. Do not set precedents which hurt the league but enhance you.
positions
I understand that we all like to play a position that we are comfortable with. The issue with that is it makes you less desirable than a player that is versed with multiple positions. In my opinion, take the different position and get good at it.That gives you better chance to play full games and be asked to sub. Instead of threatening the manager, simply ask if you can get a couple of inning occasionally in your old position, to keep in form. Remember, catchers ,right field make as much as the shortstop , pitcher, manager. Try to be good at whatever position you play. It'll benefit you in the long run. You will become a better player. Make your name ,a name to be sought for in the draft.
Position reply
Responding to "Positions", great response to complainers. Be lucky you have a senior league you can play in.

POSITIONS
Gentlemen, can we please stop with all BS regarding what position you play. Telling your manager you will only play a certain position or you will demand a trade is ridiculous. Your application says to name 3 positions that you could play NOT that you only will play. Let these managers do what they signed up for. We should be grateful that we have people interested in doing such a thankless job. Come on guys let’s not handcuff our managers just because you are being selfish. If you want to guarantee your position become a manager.
