Response to Bill
I Know your intentions are good. But to use this site could put Tony P. In a tough situation. First ,being responsible for entering messages is time consuming. Then have someone claim he misread the message. I can see issues here.
What I am in favor of is having a meeting ,or a couple of meetings after second games. This, before the general meeting. Our league is not perfect, we can improve, but only in a positive approach.
Upcoming WHACS Elections
Yesterday at lunch several members had a discussion about our upcoming elections. If it is appropriate, I think we should use this site for discussion of the election. I would like to hear from everyone who intends to run about their vision for the future of the league which would include any suggestions they may have to improve the league. Also, any player may post their suggestions on what they would like to see as far as changes to the league.
Day at the races
Another wonderful WHACS event, the day at the races. I really enjoyed the outing, and so did my Papa. I saw alot of friends and it was a great time for all. Thanks to All Johnson who stepped up to organize this fun event. Our league president Charlie led off with a prayer for our friend Artie. Thanks to this league Artie has many people who care about him including Tony Mazola who thankfully checked in on Artie. Being a member of this league is so much more than softball, it means we're all surrounded by people who truly care
Artie
Thoughts and prayers for Artie! I hope he gets back on the field fully recovered soon. I had minor strokes before my heart surgeries and they are no fun, so I know.
Each players personal information
WHY fill out an application every year if the League/Board Members /Managers DON'T use them? I submitted an application for the 2024/2025 season with ALL of my information, but it was ALL wrong on the website EXCEPT for my name! I contacted the website facilitator to correct this including the positions that I play. I had two heart surgeries and knee replacement three years ago now. It concerns me that my emergency contact information may NOT be correct either based on the website errors but that doesn't show on the website for me to correct, if needed! I just want to have fun playing as much softball as I can for as long as I am healthy, and I can still play!
Just have to vent
Two games this week, 2 losses to Suzie's. Monday's game they had 4 subs, 11 players total, 3 of which were C players. Today's game they had 3 subs, 11 players total, 2 of which were C players. Both games my team had a full 13 players which includes 6 C players. This in no way is intended as a knock on the players from Susie's, they played well in both wins. The problem is the rules. I have never played in a league where, when you are missing your players, you get replacements that actually make your team stronger. The lineup imbalance alone 13-11 usually ends up with the team batting 11 turning over their lineup at least 1 more time than the team batting 13. The team with 6 C players playing a team with 2 C players has maybe a 10 - 20 % of winning. Fair? If you know anything about softball, you know it's not. Just advocating for my team, just want at least a 50/50 chance to win when we take the field.
What is the message?
I don’t normally get on this forum, as I believe whatever is happening in the league, it’s not a world crisis! I come to the park to play ball, compete and have fun! I love the camaraderie, fellowship and friendships that I have developed over the years! But when something I believe is wrong I will always speak on it and voice my opinion! My experience as an official over the years has taught me a lot of life lessons! 1) be patience, stay positive, be sympathetic and listen to the opinions and insights of the players and coaches! An official should never interject himself into the game. The way you’ll know the official did a good job, is when no one will remember who they were! And after officiating for over twenty five years no one knows better what they go through! I’m saying all this to say that when I address the official about a call, I’m drawing on 25 years of rules knowledge! I understand how difficult the job can be, and I’m not attempting to make his job anymore difficult than what it is? I just want to see fairness in the game! So I’m making myself available to the players committee, the board and the league, utilize the knowledge!
Happy birthday Sal
What a wonderful Florida Spring day. Today's game was just another absolutely fun game. So grateful to have such a great league to play in. I want to say Happy Birthday to Sal. Today he stepped up to the plate and launched a towering drive over our heads and jogged into second with a stand up double. Today is also Sal's 84th birthday. What a day!
Long
9 post in 6 days on this subject. Too long, time to end it.
position
Last count 7 different people posted their thoughts about managers. Seems their should be no shortage of qualified applicants next seasons.
Don't won't all that knowledge to go to waste.
