Ron Seidal
I am so sorry about hearing about the passing of my friend Ron.I was one of the privileged ball players to have played with him.Of all the players in WHACS, now and past,he was the best of them all as far as I am concerned and I've seen alot of great players. He was a great ball player but most of all,he was my friend.I know that he has gone through alot over the past years with his cancer. The only good thing that I can say about his passing is that he is no longer in any pain.Ron,I will always remember you and remember how you always encouraged me on the field. You will always be with me my friend.May you rest in peace. End of the year gathering.
I want to thank everyone that attended the EOY gathering it was good to see the large attendance and also to not hear any complaints so I guess we can call it a success.
Thank you all that attended and those who couldn’t make it you were missed.
Uniform #’s
Joe,
Glad you caught that. Numbers, yea or nea, will be part of the vendor quotes we will obtain, so will depend on cost related to our budget allowance.
Should we have #’s (and I hope we do) guys can feel free to note their choice of # in the “Comments” section of the app , or we will work with them individually. No one will be left out. Thanks!
Applications
I noticed on the 2025-2026 application there is no request for uniform number. Is this by design?
WHACs minimum age to 58
Mark, all of my previous points are still valid. If you have ever played at Anderson Snow, you would then know it is not a good comparison. Because there are many modified rules with no umpire. For very old or slow, handicapped, rehabilitating injuries, allowing women aged 40+. Not a good comparison to a much more competitive Senior men's Leagues like Whacs and/or SSILs. Vote at the membership meeting instead of debating here.
Think Not.
Howard I will respond to your message.
I think not.
I see many of the "older" WHACS playing this years summer league which is being hosted by SSILS and has many more SSILS players playing when they host. Which I last know to have dropped their age limit to 48 and maybe lower as they try to get players. So being that the "older" WHACS are playing against these "younger" SSILS guys makes your point mute.
And to add there already is a older league now over at Anderson Snow. No reason to change WHACS.
If safety was the main concern then you wouldn't be playing against SSILS players.
WHACs minimum age to 58
Mark, I will take the time to respond to you in addition to what Al already mentioned. It is up for a member's vote. All sports leagues are about level and safe competition! In other words, you will find that every sports league has size and/or age restrictions. Senior tournaments have a 5-year age group limitation. The Whacs League's mean age is 75 years old. With that, the recommendation is to only raise the minimum age to 58, or just 3 years more. The League could still grandfather in those aged 55 to 58 in the League if the rule passes.
Morion to change minimum age
Mark - only a proposal for membership to discuss at next full membership meeting - plan to be there. Al J
wth ? 58 ?
So what is the reasoning behind raising the age to 58 ? Make the league older ? Slower ? Limit the number of participants ? Cut down competition ? Makes no sense.
ARTIE
Great celebration , Kudos io Al V. Knew Artie 10 years, he was from Queens, NYC , Not far from me, He, Ridgewood, me, Elmhurst. the day we met we hit it off right away. He must have been proud of that turnout! his sons were great , Chris, Mike, It was so tough for them, felt their pain! Artie and me had lunch almost every Sunday, unless he was with travel team, used to walk his pooches in that case, Just want to say no one cared more about this league than him, He loved doing what he did, Rest in peace , my friend, Love Hutch!
